Randolph Macon CollegeRandolph Macon College, located in Ashland, VA, has a moderate acceptance rate, and over three quarters of the students at this college receive financial aid. The school was founded in 1830, and now enrolls about 1,300 students. The curriculum combines the liberal arts foundation with the technology and advancements of today’s society. It provides students with state of the art info-technology skills, a strong introduction to tools that will help them excel in their professional paths.

Bridgewater CollegeBridgewater College is one of the low cost colleges in Virginia, with a population of less than 2000 students. It was founded in the year 1880 and has a moderate acceptance rate. This college has more than 60 majors for students to choose from. Bridgewater College not only gives its students a high quality education, but also refreshes them through the recreational activities. Bridgewater College participates in Division III athletics, with more than 22 Varsity sports. The most successful sports team by far is the Equestrian team, which has won many awards and championships throughout the years.

The students are taught about the spiritual life as well, as the school is affiliated with the Mennonite Church. They are well guided by the professors to achieve the school’s core values including working for positive change, peace based on respectful and justice relationships, and peace with creation.

Emory and Henry CollegeEmory and Henry College is a popular low cost college, which was founded in 1836. With a relatively high acceptance rate, this college enrolls over 1000 students. With a huge campus consisting of 331 acres, the college provides ample space for relaxation to take a break from academics. Highly qualified professionals are appointed to advise the students, and the school has more than twenty residential halls for the students living on campus.

Hampden Sydney CollegeHampden-Sydney College is one of the oldest colleges in the country, founded in 1770 under the name of Log School. It is now a private liberal arts men’s college with a moderate acceptance rate. With more than 1000 students, Hampden-Sydney College is popular for its Political Science program, and it  has done a great job in educating great politicians. Residential facilities are provided to the students and they have the choice of selecting their own housing.

Hollins UniversityHollins University is a women’s college, which was founded in 1842. It has both a high acceptance and retention rate. This college enlightens its students with the best professional teaching. Leadership training is provided to the students to help them prepare for their future. There are counselors to support the students, as well as financial aid for students that may need help paying for their education.

Randolph CollegeRandolph College, founded in 1893, is located in Lynchburg, VA. It is a medium cost college with a relatively non-selective acceptance rate. The school has a rich historical background, and it provides students ways to develop their social and professional skills. SBClogoSweet Briar College was established in 1901. It also has a high acceptance rate and a student population of less than 1000.  Sweet Briar College is women’s college in transition. In 2015, the college announced it was closing its doors because of a lack of students and low “net tuition” numbers. Its alumni fought against the decision, filed lawsuits and contributed large amounts to the institution in an effort to save it. 

University of RichmondUniversity of Richmond, established in the year 1830, enrolls nearly 5000 students. It is fairly selective, and it as a fairly high cost, though financial aid packages are available for the students. The University of Richmond has five schools, which educate the students in arts and science, business, leadership, law and professional and continuing studies. Comfortable housing is provided for the students who live on campus.

Virginia Military InstituteVirginia Military Institute is one of the top colleges that provide higher education at a low cost. The college is moderately selective and there are more than 1500 students enrolled here. Founded in 1862, this college follows the traditions of the American Democracy. It produces good soldiers to serve the country; but also provides them with refreshing extracurricular activities and proper academics.

Washington and Lee UniversityWashington and Lee University is one of the traditional institutions of the country, founded in 1749. With a very low acceptance rate, the University enrolls more than 2000 students. Academics are given the utmost importance, though there are extracurricular activities offered as well. Almost all the classes are career oriented and the professors are the best mentors to the students at this University. The Liberal Arts College, the Law School and the Williams School of Commerce, Economics and Politics are the three different colleges run by Washington and Lee.
