Nebraska Wesleyan College provides a high quality liberal arts education to students with a strong affiliation with the United Methodist Church. Widely known for the business and nursing programs available at the College, Nebraska Wesleyan College students can enjoy a wide selection of majors and professional degrees. Students are encouraged to work together towards their goals, developing the strong leadership qualities they will utilize long after graduation. At Nebraska Wesleyan College, students are taught to believe in themselves and each other, following the Christian heritage of civil service and unity.

Nebraska Wesleyan College is a coeducational facility that is home to local, out of state and international students. The campus provides students with a wealth of entertaining and intellectually stimulating events and activities, as well as essential amenities and housing options. All students are encouraged to participate in campus life and academic events such as the seminars and group meetings that meet routinely.

School History

Nebraska Wesleyan College was founded in 1887 by Nebraska Methodists. The College was established on the Judeo-Christian beliefs for a strong education combined with the shared personal beliefs of the founders that liberal arts and sciences would enhance a student’s education. These founders strove to develop a curriculum and academic atmosphere that would challenge students to not only absorb information but also to question it just as naturally. The first class to attend Nebraska Wesleyan College was made up of only 96 students and 8 faculty members. The first graduates of Nebraska Wesleyan College were four women in 1890, followed by four male graduates the next year.

Nebraska Wesleyan College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, which is a commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the programs offered at Nebraska Wesleyan College have individual accreditation as well such as the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission and the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs.

During the beginning days at Nebraska Wesleyan College, the college also included a high school, an elementary school and kindergarten classes as well. By 1931, these programs, starting with the high school program, began to discontinue, focusing on the college education. In 1937, Nebraska Wesleyan College began offering a Master of Arts degree, and operated solely as a four year college program.

Campus Life

Living on campus can be an exhilarating experience for Nebraska Wesleyan College students. There are plenty of student services such as designated resource persons and residence life staff that remain on campus to help students adjust and transition into college life. The Career and Counseling center located on campus provides early morning and late night hours for students to obtain assistance on career services such as resume help, job placement and interview preparation. Providing a comfortable and supportive atmosphere is one of the main goals at Nebraska Wesleyan College. For this reason, students are strongly encouraged to participate in the 40+ student run organization, as well as in groups that meet weekly and operate the various facets of campus life.

Many students get involved with Greek Life on campus, pledging for the various fraternities and sorority houses located throughout the campus grounds. Live events and awareness rallies are often held by members of Multicultural programs and Services groups on campus that allow students to escape from their studies, yet remain intellectually stimulated. Members of the Student Life Staff are actively involved in events, activities and mentor programs to keep morale and school spirit levels high.

Generally, first year students that live on campus reside in the residence halls that are assigned by special interests and majors. Undergraduate students can also dorm in the apartment complexes, townhouses and fraternity and sorority housing facilities located on and off campus. Over 90% of students that attend Nebraska Wesleyan College choose to dorm on campus to optimize their college experience and save time commuting to and from classes.

Financial Aid

Nebraska Wesleyan College offers students several funding options to alleviate the cost of out of pocket expenses. Accepting all government forms of financial aid such as scholarships and grants, Nebraska Wesleyan College also offers students independently funded loans and merit based grants based on placement test scores and high school resumes. Students are encouraged to explore all financial aid solutions before the start of each semester to ensure they maximize both their schedules and their education effectively.

Financial aid counselors are available in the Office of Financial Aid throughout the entire school year to help students apply for funding. Students may be eligible for need-based and special circumstance funding as well such as disability, veteran or military statuses. Many students take advantage of the work-study program available on campus, which can offer positions both on and off campus. Some positions may be related to coursework and can lead to future internships in their field.

Social Life Navigator

In addition to academics, social life is integral to the campus experience, and it’s dictated by a few different elements. Do students feel discriminated against based on their identities? Where do students spend most of their time socializing? Do drugs and alcohol dominate the social scene? This is the kind of information that schools will NOT advertise.
