Clemson University and the University of South Carolina are two of the largest universities in the state, though liberal arts colleges are common here as well, encompassing courses dealing with finances, sciences and the likes.

Allen UniversityAllen University is one of the most popular liberal arts colleges in South Carolina. Since its inception in 1870, the college has been strictly following its motto of “We teach the mind to think, the hands to work and the heart to love”. When the school was originally established, it worked towards educating the slaves of the Civil War. The students are not only helped with their education, but also are encouraged to take up internships and job prospects. The school has a moderate acceptance rate, and enrolls only about 850 students at its campus in Columbia.

Claflin UniversityClaflin University, established in 1869, with its beautiful heritage building structure will amaze one and all. Spread over 40 acres of land, the college aims towards producing professionals who have the courage to chase their dreams and think independently. The school gives out scholarships and grants every year for helping the students pursue their interests. It is moderately selective, and offers 30 majors to its 1,900 students.

Erskine CollegeErskine College provides an amiable environment to the students to pursue their undergraduate degrees. It is known for the liberal arts and theology programs which attract the students. The students spend their college years amidst Christian beliefs and civility. The school went through the war years bravely and then was helped by financial donations. With around 900 students, the school has a moderate acceptance rate and a popular Greek Life system.

Furman UniversityFurman University, in Greenville, SC, is known for its wide array of choices in the courses it offers. With majors in over 42 subjects, the school attracts a lot of students and has a moderate acceptance rate. Some of the topics covered under liberal arts education include sciences, math, analytical reasoning, human behavior, history, and foreign languages. It is also known for its athletics, as the school sends it students to compete in the NCAA Division I athletics.

Presbyterian CollegePresbyterian College is another one of the most popular liberal arts colleges in South Carolina. Located in Clinton, SC, the liberal arts and pharmaceutical programs are the most renowned here. With 30 options for majors, this school aims towards helping the students incorporate their education and skills in their professional lives. The school is specifically based on Christian ideals and beliefs. With a moderate acceptance rate, there are about only 13 to 15 students in a class on an average.

Wofford CollegeWofford College has been providing well-rounded education to its students since 1854, combining the effects of academics and community service. This is done while keeping in mind the professional requirements of the students. The most popular courses at this college are the Finance programs, Business Management and Biological Sciences. The institute remained strong during the civil war. With about 850 students, Wofford College is moderately selective.
