St. John’s College has two campuses, one in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the other campus in Annapolis. Most commonly known for their Liberal Arts and Humanities courses, St. John’s College is dedicated to providing students with a solid foundation to learn, question and continue their education while encouraging others to do the same. This school is truly a “lead by example” environment, as the majority of teachers hold advanced degrees in the fields in which they are educating. This enables students to witness first-hand the success of their future accomplishments. St. John’s College students have the opportunity to get involved with many student organizations, sports and a study abroad program.

The possibilities are endless at St. John’s College. With such a small community of students, the classroom learning experience can be modified to meet the individual needs of each student effectively – making each class resemble an interactive study group. St. John’s College proudly involves friends and family of students in their learning experience to showcase the complete support system of each student. Several times each year, student organizations assemble picnics, weekend visits and activities that welcomes families and friends to visit the campus and spend some time getting to know their extended family!

School History

St. John’s College heritage dates back to 1696, when it was then known as King William’s School. It was not until 1784 that the school became officially chartered as St. John’s College. Although King William’s School was operated as a pep school for boys, St. John’s College developed a more liberal arts based education, preparing students to face the world. Now known as one of the oldest colleges acknowledged by the educational system, St. John’s College is structured on two campuses – Annapolis and Santa Fe. The core values of the College are based on a Western liberal arts culture that incorporates a wide selection of programs to develop a student’s individuality. St. John’s College developed the Great Books Program in 1937 which still structures the curriculum today.

St. John’s College is accredited by the Middle States Association Commission on Higher Education.

Due to the effects of the Great Depression, St. John’s College had lost accreditation in 1936, however, after efforts from educators such as Stringfellow Barr and Scott Buchanan, the school was given a second chance. By adding new programs such as distance learning with other facilities, St. John’s College was able to retain accreditation and continue operating.

Campus Life

St. John’s College students can enjoy a wide range of entertainment and activities to participate in while at school. With the majority of students living on campus, almost all students prefer to join student organizations, clubs, community service programs and of course, sports teams such as sailing and rowing. St. John’s College students are actively involved in the athletics, contributing the culture of healthy lifestyles.

There are over 75 student organizations and clubs to choose from, most of which are established and operated by the student body. Undergraduates are encouraged to work together in order to develop fundraisers for charities and causes, student awareness or to make a global impact on the world – students can be found scattered throughout the campus preparing for and enjoying the various events. Many students are members of the Student Government – protecting the rights and safety of other scholars as well as representing the school in various national society events. In fact, many St. John’s College alumni graduate to become leaders in their local and global communities.

St. John’s College offers undergraduates a variety of housing options on campus. These may include residence halls for first year students or apartment style housing for undergrads. Many students take advantage of the off campus townhouse facilities available in order to be accessible to the jobs they obtained through the work-study program. Over 60% of students at St. John’s College are part of the work-study program which has founded more than 100 jobs on and off campus.

Financial Aid

The St. John’s College Empire has developed a strong understanding for students when it comes to financial aid options. Counselors from the Financial Aid Office are able to assists undergraduates in finding the best suited funding options for their circumstances, scheduling and academic achievements to ensure that that they easily retain the investment from their career choice. At St. John’s College, students are shown how to calculate the cost of their college education, in comparison with the potential income their accomplishments will achieve. This helps students to also consider their best possible profession.

St. John’s College accepts all forms of financial aid, including FAFSA loans. Many students take advantage of these loans in order to defer repayment until out of school. St. John’s College also offers private scholarships and grants each year to students that show exemplary academic achievement and athletic ability during their high school career.
