Principia College offers a strong community and education platform for the Christian Scientists of America. This school is dedicated to the liberal arts emphasis with a focus on science as well. Aside from encouraging students to learn the ideals of a liberal arts education, Principia College also stresses the core values of the Christian religion and the missions of God.

Providing the students with a healthy support system for their academic studies and religious beliefs has been the mission of Principia College since it was established. In fact, providing such a balance is the main reason for the establishment. Being one of the only schools in the nation to base their education of Christian Science, Principia College remains dedicated to helping students flourish in any way possible, both in their personal lives and professional goals.

School History

Unlike many other college facilities, Principia College was not established as a college institution at all! In fact, the history of this school started out when Mary Kimball Morgan, a Christian Scientist, decided to home school her two children to ensure they received a true education that incorporated the Christian religion with the facets of science. From there, local parents wanted Mary to teach their children as well. In light of the popular demand for this unique type of education, by 1898, Mary had hired another teacher to help educate the 15 students who had enrolled with her.

Until 1932, Mary and her staff and helped educate a decent majority of local students until receiving charter to operate a 4 year college program.

Principia College was one of the first in the nation to receive charter for a junior college in 1912. By the time the 1930s came around, an official college campus was established on the outskirts of the Mississippi River. The college is located on the same land today with a variety of newly developed and original buildings.

Campus Life

Principia College is situated on nearly 3,000 acres of property that hosts a wide variety of classrooms, buildings and student activity centers throughout the campus. Although the land may seem a bit overwhelming, students can appreciate the well planned geographic of the buildings in existence with the bike trails, landscapes and nature walks located throughout the grounds. There are plenty of activities going on around campus for students to get involved in. However, Principia College also understands a students need for privacy as well, which is why the school designates various portions of the campus to independent study grounds. These laces may include the benches in the garden, by the lake or various private and inspirational locations amongst the grounds.

Many students conduct study groups, social events and organization meeting around the fireplaces in our service centers. The home-like atmosphere creates a wealth of coziness and support for students – making their transition period much more convenient and enjoyable. Guest Houses are located on campus for friends and family to visit students without having to stay in the nearby hotels. Many students feel that it is these types of considerations and privileges that’s et Principia College aside from other schools. Once of the most recent additions to the campus grounds is the Coach Crafton Athletic Center, which students can utilize as they please – engaging in plenty of fitness activities, programs, varsity teams and events.

Although the majority of students live on campus, more than half take advantage of the study abroad program at Principia College. This program gives students the opportunity to take their education to the next level, incorporating new cultures, learning styles and hands-on experience that offers once in a lifetime experiences. It is during these experiences that students develop vital skills and knowledge about themselves that will potentially separate them from their competition in the job market.
