Mount Liberty College

Mount Liberty College is a true classical liberal arts college. With most colleges emphasizing job training, Mount Liberty has a different emphasis. It offers only a single degree, a BA in Classical Liberal Arts. Their curriculum is based on the Great Books and the Great Ideas that have moved civilization forward through the centuries.

Over the course of their four-year academic program, students will have an opportunity to engage in the application of classical knowledge and insights to the practical problems of modern life. Mount Liberty College (MLC) strongly believes that a classical education is not only compatible with career success but essential to it.

Students receiving this degree will be well-prepared for graduate school in such professions as law, communications, and business. Their exposure to the thoughts of the world’s great thinkers, writers, painters, musicians, and architects will give them the ability to integrate truth and beauty into whatever their careers may be over a lifetime. It could be starting a business, raising a family, working in politics, law, medicine, education, or perhaps in fields not yet known.

MLC does not offer “job training” in the usual sense. Their goal is to train the minds of their students, equipping them to excel in any area of interest. Nevertheless, they recognize that students (and their parents) are concerned about employability, so MLC requires two practica, or internships, that will give students practical experience in areas of interest to them. These could be with companies, schools, charitable/relief organizations, law firms, broadcasters/publishers, theater or dance companies, or any number of other organizations. MLC has an organized pool of outside mentors ready to work with students as they begin to fulfill their practicum requirements.

School History

Mount Liberty College opened its doors in August 2019 with a first freshman class of 10 students. Their goal is to recruit a freshman class of about 20 students each year leading to full enrollment of 80-100 students. With this as their goal, Mount Liberty will remain uniquely small. MLC is a private college, unaffiliated with any religion, though its philosophy is aligned with the Judeo-Christian tradition.

Financial Aid

Mount Liberty will accept no government funds, directly or indirectly, so as to be able to maintain their independence. This is an important aspect of MLC. Tuition is kept as low as possible, consequently no debt is expected for students willing to work hard.

Obviously, this is not mass education, and it is not for everyone. MLC will appeal to students interested in the classics of literature, philosophy, and history, and in their exploration in an intensive and interactive setting. Call them, a Defense Against the Dark Arts of the 21C, where students learn to see clearly, judge rightly, and act boldly.

What Students Are Saying

“Because what we’re studying is so old and seemingly outdated it seems like we’ll never use it or see it in the world today but it’s rare that a day passes that I don’t come across something we learned or discussed in class.”
Ari J

“There is a magic in having professors who are well-read and as such can assign deep, thought provoking books. My experience at Mount Liberty College has taught me not what to think but how to think.”
Jeremiah R
