Middlebury College of Vermont, founded in 1800, was the fist college to open in the state. It currently enrolls around 2,500 students pursuing undergraduate degrees in 44 majors ranging from arts and humanities to social and natural sciences. Middlebury was one of the first colleges in the country to become coeducational and was the first American college to grant a degree to an African-American student. This strong history of diversity continues to be a point of pride and cornerstone of the college's culture.

General Recommendations & Requirements for Admissions

Middlebury accepts applications through the Common and Coalition Applications online. Students must provide two teacher recommendations, an application essay, school reports and transcripts, and a letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor.

Standardized test scores can be self-reported at the time of application. The admissions staff requests that students do not send copies of any awards or certificates obtained during high school. Supplemental materials such as art portfolios can be submitted but may not be reviewed.
